Plum Pudding is one of the few British recipes famous outside it shores. In Malta, a former British colony, it is adopted as traditional Christmas fare. No christmas is complete without plum pudding and mince pies. The ritual starts with my mum boiling the pudding bain-marie for 8 hours over a kerosene heater. Maltese houses were designed to keep heat out, so despite the mild temperatures on the island, they get pretty chilly. The pudding week always brought warmth to the house. Traditionally there is a coin hidden in the pudding and the lucky one got rewarded with a year's worth of luck or a quick trip to the dentist.
